the truth about forever by Sarah Dessen

When I started the Teen Book Club at the local library, I set out over twenty books for my selection committee (the awesome Heather and Whitney).  This was their first choice, and a great kick-off to many heartfelt discussions about growing up, falling in love, relating to parents, and friendship.

In the truth about forever, Macy struggles to figure out who she is apart from her Braniac Boyfriend, her Controlling Mother, and her grief over the tragic death of her father.  Her perfectly ordered summer of working at the library desk and studying for the SATs is shaken up by her involvement with the chaotic catering crew of Wish -- and her fascination with the Dangerous and Delicious Wes.  (Ooh,  he is the dark-haired, tormented artist-with-a-past females have been sighing over since Lord Byron.)

Macy's roller-coaster summer and gradual emergence from the protective cocoon in which she's hidden since her dad's death make this tender story one that you think about long after you've finished the last satisfying chapter.
