Day 26: Cinnamon Rolls
I left my alarm on, so even though it's Saturday, I was up early. I did yoga, drank coffee, watered plants, and decided to make cinnamon rolls for Mark and Sarah. Most days, breakfast for all of us is toast or cereal -- something quick. But since I was up and anything involving yeast takes a bit of time, I figured I'd give it a try.
The recipe I used, and the excellent tips, came from the blog Our Best Bites. I literally gasped and made Mark come and observe how perfect the rolls looked when cut using dental floss. The rolls seemed to take longer to rise and bake than the recipe indicated, and were *very sweet*. Adding some pecans might help counteract the sugar rush, or serving them with something salty would also be a good idea.
In addition to giving them a fun breakfast ("I don't think I've ever eaten homemade cinnamon rolls!" Sarah exclaimed), the exercise gave me confidence that yeast breads are not impossible. I was pleased that the dough was tender, and all the hard work was done by the Kitchen Aid mixer.
Mark is off to chainsaw a wall off of an old house and collect the wax, honey, and bees that have taken up residence. The house is supposed to be torn down anyway, and he tried the screen funnel method but it didn't work. I hope it goes well today!
