Clearing Space for New Pursuits

I've always loved taking photos.  My uncle was an avid photographer back in the day and I inherited his old Pentax- manual-everything film camera.  It's been gathering dust with my own Nikon film camera (splurge!) back when digital wasn't yet stable, and I worked in an archives so I'd never give in and give up film.

Yesterday I submitted a list of cameras and lenses to B&H photo in NYC. They'll give me credit to put toward a new digital system.  I'm determined to improve my skills and take the time to document what I'm interested in.  Hopefully I'll improve my skills to the point I can upgrade to a pro level camera and freelance articles with accompanying photos.

It's bittersweet to say goodbye to the film cameras, but realistic. Digital is more convenient, and with my busy life, I need all the convenience I can get.  Less is more, right!  One new camera system to replace two old ones!

What can you clear out of your life?  Can you turn it into extra $$?  I hope so!

I got some of my inspiration from Katy at The Non-Consumer Advocate. She sells stuff on eBay for insane amounts of money, and had the genius idea of selling plants/seedlings she was thinning out of her yard.

There's this complicated concept called "Supply and Demand."  From my understanding, someone would have to want to buy her.

Thanks!  I'm glad to have another vote for Canon.  I tell you, the details of camera buying these days is dizzying.  No more auto!

Welcome to the club! The worst thing about having to "go digital" for me was eating all those highfaluting words about "film never dying and being purer etc!" But it is sooooo much easier, and cheaper, and yes, leaves you time for other stuff - like eBay!

BTW I went out to buy Nikon but ended up with Canon because I live on an island basically, but don't regret it. It's great. Seems like it's swings and roundabouts. The latest Nikon is best ever, then Cannon bring out a new one and that is - until Nikon bring out another. I don't think there is anything to choose so far as I could make out.

Whichever you end up with enjoy!

I talked and talked to pro photographers, researched online, and finally just set up a live chat with those no-nonsense people in Manhattan at B&H.  I said, "I want to shoot this, this is what I have, and what I was thinking of getting."  He immediately said, "Go with Canon, they have better entry level cameras."  Okay then.  So, Mark shipped off my film cameras (farewell, my old friends!) and as soon as I hear I've gotten credit, I'll order the T3i.  Wahoo!
