I Still Dream About You by Fannie Flagg, copyright 2010
If you like eccentric Southern characters, none compare to those living in the pages of Fannie Flagg's books.
Best known for Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle-Stop Cafe ("The secret's in the sauce!"), she's written other books but none I loved so immediately as I Still Dream About You. Maybe it's because I'm now more familiar with Birmingham, the setting of the book. Maybe it's because I'm now more familiar with real estate, and the behaviors of these characters ring so true. It's likely the mystery, the romance, and the sheer comedy of Maggie Fortenberry's struggle to deal with plans constantly going awry as she tries to live up to the pressure of being a former Miss Alabama.
I would love to see this as a movie, but the characters are so outrageous, and Maggie's dilemmas are kept so private and internal, I don't know how it could be pulled off.
If you need an escape and prefer it to come with a drawl, pick up Fannie Flagg's latest. I got it in paperback at Sam's (thanks, Mom!)
Sister, with your love of "Designing Women" this is a must-read for you!

"You know I love you more than my luggage" even if "you are too twisted for color TV!"

Loved it! It satisfied my "need" for a happy ending as well as threw in those quirky little twists that fit my skewed view of life.
