Help Kids Love to Read
Blog follower and long-time friend Tabitha sent a link to James Patterson's article on tips for helping parents engage their children with reading.
He had me at "Sorry, moms and dads, but it's your job -- not the schools' -- to find books to get your kids reading and to make sure they read them."
I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but as a former teacher, it was nice to hear someone say parents need to take a more active role in helping their kids find books they'll love . . . not just books on the Accelerated Reader list, or books other kids think are good (popular books, though these are often the best books in terms of interest level).
Thanks Tab!
