The Unexpected Death of a Blog

This morning I’m struggling to come to terms with the fact that 8 years of blog content is virtually gone. I’ve spent hours on the phone with Customer Service at GoDaddy trying to migrate content. With the cancellation of the type of software they offer, all of my images, comments to my blog, and audio/video files disappear. I’ve been able to migrate text, but it has no formatting.

I’m trying to figure out how to use a new platform that is not very intuitive, repeat steps taken to get the remaining 300 blog posts from my old blog to the new system (which, given all the shenanigans I had to go through pointing to different domains may be impossible) all while also dealing with my regular life, which today includes cooking for 3 different events, preparing to teach a class, and going out of town for a work conference.

So, the next 48 hours will be crucial, and I will try to rise to the occasion, but it may be awhile before my “new” blog feels like anything but an alien to me.

**Update** I was able to transfer all of the posts — text only — and find a design I could personalize with one of Robert’s photos. Until I have more time to devote to tinkering, please excuse the way the blog looks. I hope to add new posts soon and liven things up a bit!

  1. Oh, MY! Condolences on the grandest scale! What a loss!! What a marathon of recovery! Glad you could save your writing…but sorry about the loss of images and comments. We’ll build you back up from our end!!

    1. Thank you, Mary Lee! I was initially gutted but it’s a blessing in a way — I’d been wondering about the wisdom in continuing and when my blog was threatened, it became very clear to me that I want to keep at it. I love the Poetry Friday community especially!
