My Life Monday: 1% Better Every Day, by James Clear

James Clear is one of my favorite bloggers. He writes a lot about habit formation, and he does the research into what works. He inspires me to do and be better. This keynote speech is about 25 minutes long, and worth it if you need a dose of practical advice for “putting in the reps.” The actions you take provide evidence for who you are, he says. Every action is a vote for the type of person you wish to become. How are you voting for yourself? What identify are you developing?

In life related updates:

I took a barn quilt painting class and had a ball.

I did another block in my Block of the Month quilt project.

We went to Indiana to help with our new granddaughter, and on the way experienced the eclipse on the line of totality. (We also met some cool folks from Chicago and California who were pulled off on the same road. They shared photos via email afterwards. Made me love America.)

I listened to the audio book of Elizabeth Gaskell’s North & South, and it made me appreciate a lot of things about my life, about living in America in 2017 vs. Britain in 1855, about opportunities for women, and about my family.

  1. I like the idea of 1% better every day. How long does it take to get to perfection? The road of life is not about perfection, but, what you are doing…being present to it.

  2. Hiya KCL–Love the barn quilt painting and the quilt block. And the baby’s quite pleasant-looking, too. L. ‘g., js

  3. Keri, what a lot of lovely wonderfulness! So much joy here. I recently bought the Kindle book Habit Stacking, but I haven’t actually read it yet. Habits are such powerful things though. I work to put efficient and productive habits into my daily life, and I change them regularly when they no longer feel like they’re getting the job done. I’ll have to give a listen to this when I can find a moment. Thanks!
