In my lifetime, not counting the far-too-many times I changed apartments in Florida, I’ve moved four times. In each place I’ve made new friends, and one aspect of new friendships that I enjoy is learning what other people like. This weekend when I thought about what to give, I first looked at my opportunities. A dinner party at the home of some friends gave rise to finding a duplicate copy of a small cookbook I had on hand, as the hostess loves new recipes. She seemed delighted with it, which increased my pleasure even more. …
