And, when a mirror isn’t handy, let us be grateful for true friends, who tell us when we have something unsightly in our teeth.
Or, in the case of having something unsightly in our noses, a delicate euphemism from a Southern friend: “You have bats in the cave.”
Had to LOL at “bats in the cave.” Samuel Butler’s quote reminds me of “The Picture of Dorian Gray” by Oscar Wilde, in which a painting revealed the true self (and had to be hidden!)
